take this world and all it's become

well, i'm back. nobody should really be surprised, like alli said, it was the phantom hurricane. at least we were prepared. the sad thing is, the next time they tell everybody to get safe etc etc, less people will listen. they will say, "oh, it's just like rita".

i dunno when school will start back up, people aren't supposed to come back, says the mayor... *shifty eyes*

but here we are. i am going to go stir crazy again.

i want to get out of this place

Friday, September 23, 2005

well, we left. this afternoon, at one. absolutely nobody is on the freeways right now (except 45. don't take 45); it took us less time to get here than it usually does. we're at my aunt's house in bellville right now. not that far away from houston, really, but it makes my dad feel better that we're not quite so close to the gulf as we were.

so if you are even thinking about leaving, now would be the perfect time to do it. just make sure to bring food/water/etc.

my dad and my neighbor were watching the traffic on i10 yesterday by our house, and they saw this lady who's car had stalled in the middle of the freeway. they asked if she needed help, and she did, so they helped her. turns out she had been there for two hours and nobody had asked if she needed help. which was surprising, seeing as traffic was moving at about five miles per hour.

so then he came home and i went back with him to bring them some drinks. they hadn't brought food or water, which completely baffled us. the lady was panicing, and the battery had died because she kept trying to restart the engine. her car has electric transmition, so after the battery died her car wouldn't shift out of park. finally we got it working again, and they went to our neighbor's house for dinner. they hadn't eaten for 18 hours.

talk about a long, craptastical day.

i hope all who left yesterday are doing alright. and those who left the day before. stay safe, yall.

oh, and happy birthday aditi! and kevin! and apparently ryan's little brother as well!

i hope you all stay safe.

everybody is so scared. running around. not knowing what to do when they can't find batteries or water. even peanut butter. i waited in line for gas for 45 minutes. my friends are leaving to various parts of texas, not to mention other countries. one even left for salt lake city.

we dont know what to do. i feel so lost. my dad says we might leave friday, but that we'll see what rita does tomorrow. we'd go to my aunt's house, or our farm. neither of which are particularly far away.

i wish you all the best of luck, and i'd say call and keep in touch. but i can't, because it is nearly impossible now; during and after landfall, i doubt our phones will function at all. everything is so clogged.

panic. why is everybody panicing. it is because of katrina, because of the thought of losing everything, even family and friends. who knows when the next time we'll all be together will be. during school we were happy that we have no school tomorrow or friday.

in the back of my mind, i was so scared. we won't have school for longer than that, i assume. like my family from new orleans. they said they'd go back afterwards.

now look at them, all holed up in a house in baton rouge, or back trying to rebuild; the latter of which are across the lake from new orleans.

i don't know the next time i'll talk to you will be, but i hope it's soon. i hope you stay safe, i hope that we all get through this ok.

i wasn't scared until now. now i am faced with reality, i guess. the fact that i just have to leave everything that i've known to run from something i have never been this directly faced with before.

but i have to tell myself it will be alright. we will come out of this alright in the end, and so will our city.

i refuse to submit to this widespread panic.

the sun is always in my eyes

le sigh, monday again.

this weekend was pretty cool, albeit busy. friday night we went to see just like heaven (sorry kirk). i thought it was pretty good/cute. saturday i finished my shelves! so i got to have people over for a "party". it was mucho fun. i dont even know if that makes sense... becca also helped me clean and put things on my ginormous shelves.

or should i say... borecca... nweerrrroooooooo piou piou piou *crash noises*. teehee.

sunday i had a piano lesson, as usual. then i went with my teacher to her teacher's recital which was fun. he was.. amazing.. though that is not a good enough word. this man was simply fabulous. it was insane, as well. so fast and so... perfect.... too bad i can't play like that. then there was the katrina relief concert at the refuge, which was oodles of fun.

and now i have to go do dancey sort of things. i'm sure you are all just so excited that you got to read a very boring and pointless account of what i did sort of this weekend. because everybody needs to know what all i did.

oh. but before i go.. on another, more serious note; i don't care what you do, just don't get yourself in trouble. i am worried about you. don't lose yourself, please. that would suck, and i'd lose a friend. so would you.

you know who you are.

it crashes through the windows

i'm so cool

i have a new favorite place in the world. it is ikea. everything is so... huge.. and in bulk.... and surprisingly inexpensive! went today with my mom to get some new shelves for my room. they are ginormous and fabulous as such. you will have to come by when i get my room finished (which will probably not be until at least the end of this semester), it will be absolutely stunning.

maybe i will design furniture for a living.

gasp. or lamps. they had a whole freaking room of lamps. i want the one that looks like it's going to consume small fish. eee! i am going to try to see if there is some word for a lamp fanatic. i really actually don't need any more.... i have.. eight? eight lamps? excluding the ones that don't work. i am a lamp dork.

and candle holders were like.... 75 cents apeice. i was in heaven.

too bad i'm a loser

throw a coin in a fountain of dust

it is saturday! and, sadly, i did not sleep very late. i woke up at 8 something. before nine... it was awful. but i am not tired so i guess it's alright?

this time next week i will be on a bus! or on a beach. for beach cleanup! i suggest you all go, it will be oodles of fun (like it always is). and maybe i won't even be subjected to katherine's whiney music! i mean.. not... whiney... or anything. at all. oh, which reminds me. my podizzle is still in the car, i should probably get that out sometime soon. it is dead. and possibly melted?

it is also almost the fall. i love fall. mostly because of the smell. and the not being obscenely hot outside. there is also a four day weekend next month, which is something to look forward to.

i'm a doubting thomas

for lack of anything you all would not fall asleep upon reading, i have stolen yet more content from other people's thingies.

this latest installment is from rin.

ask me three questions, any questions you'd like. i will answer them truthfully.

i am so insanely bored. BORED, i say! double batter the fish.. tee hee..

today wasn't a total loss. i think i will do that uil thing for dr williams, it seems exciting. and i am actually looking forward to english every morning. it is now pretty much the only class i enjoy. besides yearbook. just because the both of them have some semblance of actually doing something productive.

and now! for some playing of the nocturnes. they are so pretty. and make me happy.

lemons also make me happy, but limes more so. limes are so fabulously exciting and green. i wish i had a lime tree... i think i will plant one. in my garden that is currently overflowing with weeds. maybe i will just call it an oasis. an oasis of all that is living. yes. that sounds good.

i never seem to be able to finish a single thing i start. how depressing.

i really like this song... you probably wouldn't, loser freaks. more power to me i guess. sheep, the lot of you.

you should all also read scary go round. just put a w.. and a w.. and a w dot... that song was stuck in my head. while hiking. loads of fun, let me tell you... then my mother started singing. joy of joys! the apocolypse.

boom.

i can't keep my promises

are you gonna live your life

so katherine is here, and we were going through all the boxes in the attic that i had to clean out in order to go anywhere this weekend. we came across this magnetic board thing i have with all that magnetic poetry on it. and i had written a poem on it. the last time i used it was probably like.. sixth grade. this stuff has been in the attic for a while. here's what it says:

In a deep, dark soul
A star will die
The sun on the horizon
It weeps and sighs

i was emo, eh? it doesn't even really make sense. i was a werid child. very weird. we also came across a bunch of my old hobbies (they changed monthly), including but not restricted to: crochet, car model building, woodworking, hemp weaving, jewelry making.. like i said, i was random. anyway.

katherine was inspired by my poetic genius and tried to make a few of her own with this board. here they are, for you to see:

Enter in East
Fortell no silence
Two blooms of ancient peace
In a mirror of soft shadow
How despairing

There really is no punctuation, it is that awesome. you should read it a few times over, just to let it sink in. oh, she has added some punctuation: enter in east? fortell no silence: [rest of poem] and just to finish off: how despairing!

and another by our up-and-coming poetic friend:

beyond her dogwood
forest stream to cry
life's face
low at island path

she is definitely improving. read that one twice as many times as you read the last one. just for good measure.

all my distress

i will just start by saying.. ads are DONE!!! well, selling-wise. but still.. *happy dance* now there is just the helping everybody design theirs. which shouldn't really be difficult.

that is how i spent the majority of my day.. entering stuff into the database, putting things in folders, helping frantic mothers. so exciting, let me tell you...

i got to go to yoga today for the first time in a looong while. it was absolutely fabulous. you should join us!

not much else happened... except that i went with kirk to jeff's house! i met a bunch of new people. new stratford people. kirk was right, they really are a lot like we are. and it is mildly creepy. and wendy was there! some of you will remember her from middle school. that was crazy. rachel also came, which was cool.

err... jeff is a chia pet. and that's all i have to say.

is going, going, gone
